Siemens Acquisition of Mentor Graphics is Now Complete!

Siemens finalizes Mentor Graphics Acquisition!

The addition of Mentor’s industry leading solutions for electronics systems design to Siemens’ dominance in the PLM space pushes the company to the top 10 list of largest software companies in the world. The combined capabilities further Siemens’ Vision 2020 and its capabilities to shape the Digital Enterprise through the multi-physics Digital Twin.

While the integration of these two entities is only in the beginning phase, we are excited to be a part of this evolution, especially as it relates to the benefits to be gained by our core product offerings of UniCam FX, Test Expert, and eMES. We recognize that Mentor has valuable capabilities in products such as Valor DFM and we look forward to strengthening the product portfolio as we help you, our customers, use them to the benefit of your business. This is all in addition to the strengthening integration with the products from our other vendors, namely Cogiscan and our new relationship with Accelonix, the developers of products such as CoverageXpert for multi test strategy and analysis (more on that next time!).

Joint Statement from Tony Hemmelgarn (CEO – Siemens PLM) and Wally Rhines (CEO – Mentor Graphics)

We are excited to announce the acquisition of Mentor Graphics by Siemens is now complete. Mentor is now a part of the Siemens PLM Software business unit, within the Siemens Digital Factory division.

With the addition of Mentor, Siemens is further building upon its Vision 2020 by expanding its unique portfolio for industrial software to shape the Digital Enterprise. Siemens continues to invest in software solutions to link conceptual to the real, connecting virtual product development and production planning with the real production environment and lifecycle support.

Only Siemens provides integrated software and automation solutions across the entire value chain of our customers from initial conceptual design through manufacturing planning and execution through service and support of both the products and the plants that produce them.

With the addition of Mentor Graphics, Siemens now delivers the most comprehensive digital design portfolio—from integrated circuit design, to system design and the complete Digital Enterprise. Mentor’s system design product portfolio significantly adds to Siemens’ Digital Enterprise vision, strengthening the system of systems and model-driven design methodologies with Mentor’s electronic system design expertise. This directly addresses the rapid growing electronic content in today’s complex systems. The combined companies’ simulation capabilities provide the most comprehensive solution for a multi-physics and electronic Digital Twin.

Mentor significantly expands Siemens’ digital product design portfolio with the entry into the adjacent Integrated Circuit (IC) design tool segment. This segment offers exciting growth opportunities for Siemens and will expand even further with the rise of Internet of Things, high-speed communications and the cloud.

Embedded software is another exciting adjacent segment driven by the rapid adoption of machine intelligence such as autonomous driving and smart factories.

Siemens is fully committed to further investing in Mentor’s integrated circuit design and embedded software solutions to ensure continued technology and market leadership.

While the transaction has officially closed, Siemens PLM Software and Mentor are still early in the process of combining the organizations and exploring the many ways our two organizations can work together. Siemens has an excellent track record of developing and growing the businesses it acquires and, importantly, retaining the culture that made those companies successful. It will be no different for Mentor. Siemens is committed to retaining the innovative culture that has led to Mentor’s success.

Our top priority is to continue to focus on serving our customers, achieving product development plans, and realizing the market opportunities to accelerate our success together. Customers can be assured that we will continue to deliver the same products and solutions and best-in-class service that you have come to expect.

We are very grateful for your continued support, and we are excited to show you what Siemens and Mentor can deliver as a combined company.

Kind Regards,

Wally Rhines, CEO, Mentor Graphics
Tony Hemmelgarn, CEO, Siemens PLM Software
